So !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! got me thinking as it did many for many of you, that asking what HP is the right amount is the wrong question to ask...it should be a power to weight thing, right? So on that subject I ask you to submit your lbs/HP figure, lets find out how much power the car loving world REALLY needs.

Kinja'd!!!

My cruiser is carting around 23.6 Lbs for each of its 212 horses. The hilarity comes when you add GVWR, and trailer in the mix. When carrying the full 5000 lbs AND max payload each pony has 54.25 lbs to contend with.

The Sportwagen is isn’t actually much better at 23.18 lbs per compression ignition horse. Granted it never seems to have a lack of power; something something inverse square law.

Anyways, post um up and lets find out what the average oppo power to weight number is all about.

375 HP
3,600 lbs.

P/W: 0.104 hp/lb
W/P: 9.6 lb/hp

Mind you, I don’t think that’s the real world number on the power figure. That’s the crank-rated figure, but it there are many rumors that the engine does closer to 400, which would bump the P/W to 0.111. I’ve also read many things about the car weight, which seems to vary between 3,500 and 3,800. I’m just going to go with a 200 lb. difference over what a regular C4 weighs, roughly 3,400 lbs.

So, 3100 lbs getting pushed (pulled, actually) around by 174 horses comes out to about 18 lb/hp.

Coupled with some worn struts, thick sidewalls, and a higher-than-a-sedan roll center, and what I have is a perfect recipe for understeer.

5200lbs & 159hp = 0.03hp/lbs or 32.70lbs/hp what do I win?

Speed? I don’t has it.

Velocity? I has.

My CBR1000 had 600hp/ton, that was too much (3.3lb/hp)

My FR-S has 145 hp/ton, this is too little (13.7lb/hp)

My SV650 has 254 hp/ton, this is just about right (7.8lb/hp)

Truck: 14.62 (GMC 1500 / 5.3 v8)

Car: 15.5 (MK6 GTI)

Makes sense that the truck feels faster.

My Fairlane is listed as 2932lbs and 120hp, for 24.4lb/hp, and my F15o should be around 4700 with the shell and platform in back, so assuming it still makes the rated 195hp, that’s 24.1lb/hp unloaded.

Not the best, guess I need to lighten both the car and myself...

Defender (300tdi hi-cap)- 38.9lbs

Series (2.5 petrol MOD)... wait for it.... 57lbs unladen. If fully laden with a 3.5ton trailer attached, the figure rises to 196lbs per rather knackered horse.

Power to weight? 3:1 seems to work out pretty well. Good acceleration and a comfortable ride. There are vehicles with higher acceleration, but you risk being turned into goo.

Yeah, 3500 lbs and 310-325 HP. Not a lightweight, but not nearly as heavy as the fifth gens either.

What weight are we using? My 2013 JSW TDI (Manual) is 140 HP at 4k RPM with a curb weight of 3283 lbs comes it 23.45 lbs/hp but the availability of 236 lb-ft of torque at 1750 RPM means it is quite motivated to start moving.

3,535 pounds

= 14.43 pounds per horse on the OBXT
